Graceland - Paul Simon
I LOVE this album! I first heard this album earlier this year as I wanted to listen to more diverse music to expand my taste. So during the last month of my spring freshman year, I looked at rolling stones top 500 album list and scrolled around until I found this album randomly. I, at first, thought the album was ok and only really liked "You can call me Al" as It was upbeat
and fast paced, but I listened more and more until now, where I find myself listening to it almost everyday. Now my favorite songs from the album are "Graceland" and "Diamond on the Soles of Her Shoes"
(both the original and the demo versions.) Something about the lyrics of both songs are pure bliss to me.
This is the only album I really like from Paul Simon alone, and he ended up as my 2nd most listened to artist on spotify this year, and I just got spotify in August. I also ended up as 0.2% of listeners to Simon on youtube in October, soooooo...... This album is really good, to me anyway.
Flood - They Might Be Giants
I Love this album sm! But I also just love they might be giants too!! (or abrv. as tmbg for short.) I discovered this ablum some years ago when I discovered tmbg in general. Which went something like, remembering "Istanbul (not Constantinople)" from just dance, then learning that they did mickey mouse clubhouse's song "Hot Dog", then listening to youtube playlists with tmbg in it, and it spiraled from there. I adore their "disorienting sound" and how they experiment with their sound and genres and how they aren't afraid to be silly too. My favorite songs from the album vary from day to day it feels like but right now its "We want a Rock","Someone keeps moving my chair","letterbox","minimum wage", and "They might be giants". "We want a rock", "Letterbox", and "Someone keeps moving my chair" feel like theres more meaning to them but you can't quite find out what it is. "minimum wage" is just a fun one to blurt out with the whipcrack sound effect included, and "They might be giants" is also just a fun one to lead into the slow song "road movie to berlin." Also "Letterbox" sounds like Peter Griffin and Quagmire singing in that one episode, ngl.
They might be giants is one of my favorite bands due to many reasons, and this album is just one of those many.
Thunder Lightning Strike - The Go! Team
Woah! I love this album a lot! The energy from the music by the go! team is always kick ass, have fun, and be kind, which is something I can get behind. This album is no different. I first discovered the album through an animation on youtube and went to listen to more, and the rest is history for me. I've listened to all or most of their albums, but this is the one that I own currently. My favorite songs on the album are "friendship update", "get it together", and "feelgood by numbers." All of their music has almost a child-like sound to it, which I adore (!!) as a lot of the art I make is based off of nostalgia, family, and childhood. They often use instruments like the recorder to induce that nostalgic feeling, as well as they use in other songs from other albums children and teens sing, also giving a youthful sound.
The Go! Team has quickly become one of my favorite bands over the past couple of years with their sound, lyrics, and overall vibe. This album just so happens to be the one that I own proudly.
